A private collection contains twenty-one pieces of historical, artistic, functional and valuable set of greenish celadon including four pieces of cock head wine ewers, five pieces of beast head wine vessels, four pieces of cock head oil ewers, five pieces of dog erigeron oil-lamp and three pieces of candle trays from Eastern Jin Dynasty.
Eastern Jin Dynasty was recorded in Chinese history being set up in A.D.317 and ended in A.D.420. The culture of the Eastern Jin was dominated by the upper classes who devoted their lives to academics and literature and was based on their social and economic foundation. Zhao Gai, Tao Yuanming and Wang Xizhi are famous artists in Eastern Jin Dynasty. The art of celadon would also travel to other countries in Asia over the centuries. During Eastern Jin, greenish celadon appeared to dominate the world of celadon for the next 700 years.
Zhao Gai born in the Western Jin Dynasty. He was a famous celadon craftsman in Eastern Jin Dynasty. He created a series of significant innovations on the crafts of greenish celadon, making celadon bodies, roasting and so on. He contributed a lot to the celadon industry of Jingdezhen. He was respected by the next generations who called him “Master of Making Celadon”.
The Butterfly Lovers is a Chinese legend of a tragic love story of a pair of lovers, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, whose names form the title of the story. The legend of Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai is set in the Eastern Jin Dynasty.
In 1992, a celedon plate dated to the Song Dynasty fetched $1.54 million at an auction in New York. How about these ancient celedon collections from Eastern Jin Dynasty nowadays?
